Streamlining PBMC Isolation with Automation: A Biobank’s Validation Experience
Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) are of increasing popularity in clinical research due to their broad range of applications, including cell and gene therapy development, biomarker identification, and immune response analysis. While density gradient centrifugation and magnetic cell isolation are two methods commonly used to isolate PBMCs from whole blood, performing these techniques manually can be laborious and time-consuming, and leave room for error, which can delay downstream applications and research progress.
In this webinar, three members of the New South Wales Health Statewide Biobank (NSWHSB) team—Dr. Beth Caruana, Maria Villalva, and Yingshi Li—shared their experience of transitioning to a different PBMC isolation method and adopting automation in their high-throughput workflow. They also explored the benefits and challenges of this transition.
